Dubrovnik Cathedral

Dubrovnik Cathedral

Dubrovnik, Hrvatska

Dubrovnik's Cathedral (full name Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin) was built in Romanesque style between 12th and 14th century. According to a local legend, the construction was funded by the English king Richard the Lionheart after he had suffered a shipwreck and was casted away on the coast near Dubrovnik. The present-day temple was built after the great earthquake of 1667 and holds countless valuable artifacts, among which are the relics of the patron of the city – St Blaise.
