
Uplistsikhe (which means "the Lord's Fortress) is an ancient cave town located in the Shida Kartli region of Georgia. The history of the town dates back to the 6th century BC and was a significant place for trade and culture along the Silk Road.
The cave town is built into a rocky hill overlooking the Mtkvari River and consists of a complex of caves and tunnels, including main cave temple, royal palace, and amphitheater. The town acted as a residence for the ruling class, as well as a center of devotion and learning.
