Triglav National Park is Slovenia's only national park. It takes its name from Slovenia's highest mountain, the 2,864-metre-tall Triglav. The park covers most of the Julian Alps and is the largest protected area in Slovenia. It is divided into three conservation areas. The first two, characterised by their narrowness, have stricter rules than the third, which is also more densely populated. The park's harmonious coexistence with its inhabitants is evident in several areas. The park is part of the Julian Alps Biosphere Reserve, the first Slovenian biosphere reserve in the UNESCO family.
