The Old Distillery in Middleton was founded by the Murphy brothers in 1825. It is the most modern distillery in the world and the largest in Ireland. The factory produces 64 million liters per year. The distillery tour contains a short audio-visual presentation, after which visitors can see the old distillery, passing through mills, facilities and warehouses, as well as seeing the world's largest metal still. The visit ends at the distillery bar, where visitors are invited to taste a glass of Irish whiskey. Also during the tour, volunteers are selected from the group to taste and compare Jameson whiskey with Scotch whiskey and American bourbon, after which these selected volunteers receive a whiskey taster diploma.
