Quenco is an archeological site in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, nearby Cusco. The rock formation is considered the largest "huaca" (holy place in the Andean culture) of the Cusco region. In Quechua this place is called Q´inqu, which means "zig-zag". The archeological site consists of a complex of subterranean galleries, canals, and a semi-circular amphitheater-type structure. The area of the ruins that tourists visit is Big Qenqo whereas Small Qenqo is off-limits to visitors. In the 16th century, the Spanish tore down many of the stone structures to repurpose for their own colonial buildings. This has made it difficult to uncover the original purpose of the site.
