Poganovo Monastery of St. John the Theologian is situated along the left bank of the picturesque Erma River. The monastery complex has been built for nearly a century and was completed in 1499, when masters from Northern Greece decorate the church with magnificent frescoes. During the period between 1879 and 1920, the monastery is situated within the borders of Bulgaria. Under the Neuilly Peace Treaty, the western outskirts, together with Poganovo Monastery were handed over to the Kingdom of Serbia. Today the complex is a national monument of culture thanks to the preserved over 360 square meters of frescoes from the Middle Ages.
