Palace of Holyrood house, the formal residence of the British monarch in Scotland, located at the eastern end of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, and dating largely from the 16th century. It is used more for official receptions and ceremonies than as a royal home. The Queen’s Gallery for works of art from the Royal Collection was established in the shell of an 1840s building and opened in the beginning of 21th century.
