Lesbos

Lezbos, Grčka

Lesbos, the third largest island after Crete and Euboea in the Aegean Sea.

The irregular coast of Lésbos is penetrated by two narrow-mouthed bays. The island is largely volcanic in the west, and numerous thermal springs indicate the unstable subterranean structure that has caused severe earthquakes in the past. The principal peak - Mount Lepethymnus reaches 968 meters.

The original vegetation is well preserved west of the town of Kalloní. The major population center is around Mytilene on the southeast coast.

The island’s ouzo and olive oil are celebrated throughout Greece; many of the 100,000 inhabitants are employed in producing them.

Since Lesbos is a big island, tourists have a great choice of scenic beaches.
