Khertvisi Fortress is an ancient fortress located in the southern part of Georgia, near the town of Akhaltsikhe.
The fortress was built on a rocky hill, dates back to the 10th-11th centuries AD. It played a crucial role in the region's history and was attacked many times and rebuilt by various conquerors throughout the centuries.
Khertvisi Fortress consists of two parts: the lower fortress, built in the 10th century, and the upper fortress, from 13th century.
Visitors can explore: the towers, the walls, and the underground tunnels; and also enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and the Mtkvari River from the top of the fortress.
