
Machupicchu town, also called Aguas Calientes, is a Peruvian town located in the department of Cusco, Urubamba province, Machu Picchu district. It is the capital of the homonymous district, where the District Municipality is based. It is the main access road to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. It is known as Machu Picchu town due to its proximity to the Inca City. The altitude of Aguas Calientes is only 2 040 meters above sea level and normally the effects of height can be felt from 2 300 meters.
